Programme Description
Every year the foundation awards scholarships to international students in degree courses or PhD programmes at higher education institutions in Germany. The scholarship programme is primarily aimed at international students and doctoral candidates from non-EU countries. Successful candidates are given the opportunity to complete a German higher education qualification, earn a doctorate or acquire additional knowledge in their academic fields. The foundation's goal is to help further the education and training of young academics, expecting them to shoulder responsibility for the state and society in their home countries after their return. The sponsorship amount and duration depend on the academic goals of the applicant. In addition, a number of allowances and contributions may be applied for.
Target Group
committed and gifted international students and doctoral candidates from any subject who can relate to and stand up for the goals of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation
Academic Requirements
Applicants for MA or doctoral programmes who have already completed a first course of study will be accepted.
Applicants for BA programmes must have completed at least the second semester at the time of application.
In principle, there are no restrictions with regard to subjects. Exception: Human or dental medicine courses (leading to a state examination) and specialist medical training are not eligible for funding. Due to the standard funding period of 4 semesters, 3-semester courses (e.g. some LLM courses) are not eligible for funding.
Duration
The duration of the sponsorship depends on the circumstances and study aims as well as on the proven academic achievements. The grant period for students in a Bachelor's or Master's programme generally extends over 2 years. For doctoral candidates, the sponsorship is awarded for a period of 3 years.
Scholarship Value
- Students in Bachelor's and Master's programmes receive a monthly grant of 992 EUR.
- PhD students receive a monthly grant of 1,400 EUR.
- The foundation grants a number of allowances and contributions, among others to health- and long-term care insurance as well as child- and family allowances, if applicable. See here for further information.
