Programme Description
The scholarships enable particularly gifted Master's students, doctoral candidates and (junior) researchers of German language and literature studies to come to the Institute of German Philology at Würzburg University for the purpose of education and (further) training. Candidates from specific countries in Central and Eastern Europe are eligible to apply. The funding covers
- short stays (1-2 months),
- study periods of 1 semester,
- post-graduate programmes (1 year, can be extended by 1 year),
- doctoral studies (1-6 months),
- post-doctoral studies (1-12 months),
- and research projects (1-6 months).
Target Group
highly qualified students of the German language and literature from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine
Academic Requirements
Depending on the purpose; usually at least a Bachelor's degree is required.

on average about 30 scholarships per year

Scholarship Value
The amount of the grant depends on the purpose. It ranges from 950 EUR for a short stay to 2,250 EUR for a post-doctoral research project.

- interest in the German language, literature and culture with the purpose of enhancing one's knowledge and skills in the field of German studies
- interest to promote and strengthen interest in the German language, literature and culture in the home countries in the future
- desire to study and research at a renowned German institute with very good library conditions
- interest to get to know life in a beautiful university town at one of Germany's oldest universities
