Objective
The primary aim of this programme is to promote research projects within the context of doctoral programmes.
Who can apply?
Doctoral candidates at universities in Brazil, who have been awarded a domestic scholarship from CAPES or one of the following foundations:

What can be funded?
A research project or course of continuing education at a state or state-recognised institution of higher education or a non-university research institute in Germany, which is being carried out in coordination with an academic adviser in Germany.
Duration of the funding
- 2 months to a maximum of six months; the length of the grant is decided by a selection committee and depends on the project in question and the applicant's work schedule.
- The grant is non-renewable.

According to the agreements between DAAD and the Brazilian partner institutions the domestic doctoral scholarships will be paid during the research stay in Germany without changing the duration and value of the funding. - Co-funded by DAAD:
- Monthly payment of € 735
- Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
- Travel allowance (currently € 2,075), unless the expenses ar covered by the home country or another source of funding
Selection
An independent selection committee consisting of specialist scientists reviews applications.
The most important selection criteria:
- a convincing and well-planned research project or course of continuing education
- academic achievements
Application requirements
What requirements must be met?
- Applicants must hold the official status as a doctoral candidate at a university in Brazil and have been awarded a domestic scholarship from CAPES or from one of the following institutions:

FAPEPI - Piaui - As a rule, applicants shoud not have graduated any longer than six years before the application deadline. If you are already working on a doctoral degree, your should not have started your degree any longer than three years previously
- Applicants who have been resident in Germany for longer than 15 months at the application deadline cannot be considered
- Proof of German or English language skills according to the European Framework of Reference (e.g: TOEFL, IELTS) or TestDaF at the level of B2 or higher must be submitted.
Language skills
- The required language level depends on the applicant's study plans and subject: In the arts, social sciences and in law, at least a good knowledge of German is usually expected. For the natural sciences and engineering, proof of good English language skills may also be accepted if English is spoken at the host institute.

Application Procedure
Application deadline
October 31, 2024 for a research stay between May 2025 and January 2026
Application deadlines are updated at least once a year. In most cases, they are in the same period as the previous year. You can find the current dates here.
Application documents
Documents to be uploaded to the DAAD portal:
- Online application form
- Full curriculum vitae in tabular form (max. 3 pages)
- List of publications (max. 10 pages), if applicable
- Extensive and detailed description of the research proposal which has been agreed upon with the academic adviser and a description of previous research work (max. 10 pages)
- Schedule of planned research work
- Letter confirming supervision by an academic adviser in Germany, which refers to the applicant's proposal and confirms that the host institute will provide a workplace
- University degree certificate indicating final grade(s): the certificate must be subsequently submitted before the grant-supported research begins if it is not available at the time of application
- Proof of admission to the doctoral thesis or certification of the date on which the exam will be taken before the scholarship starts

FAPEPI - Piaui - Other documents which support your application (example: certificates of employment, proof of placements, etc.)
- Language certificate
- All university certificates on all annual examinations with individual grade(s), incl. explanation of grading system
- German or English translations of documents submitted in the national language
- One recent supporting letter of recommendation (on a DAAD-form) from a university teacher (for doctoral students, from the supervisor of your doctoral thesis) which provides information about your qualifications. Please regard the instructions given on the tab 'Submitting an application'.

Submitting an application
General information on the application via DAAD portal
Click on 'Application portal' at the bottom of the page to go to the DAAD portal. There you will be provided with an online application form to enter your application data.
This is what you have to do:
1. Register in the DAAD portal (Read notes about registering in the portal >>)
2. Request recommendation form
You can generate the recommendation form in the DAAD Portal as a writable PDF under 'Request recommendation form'. It can only be generated during the application period. Please send it to your university teacher and ask him or her to complete the form in full. When you have received it back, upload it in the portal under 'Letter of Recommendation'.
3. Applying online in the DAAD portal (Read notes on applying in the portal >>)
- Prepare application documents
- If necessary, translate documents (unless they are already in German or English).
- Scan paper documents and save in PDF format. You can only upload PDF files to the portal.
- Fill out the application form and upload the application documents to the portal in PDF format. Translations, if applicable, should be uploaded together with the document issued in the original language.
- Submit the application online.
