Programme Description
The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald is awarding up to 6 Alfried Krupp Senior Fellowships and up to 8 Alfried Krupp Junior Fellowships for the academic year 2026/27.
The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald is an independent academic institution in the centre of the traditional university and Hanseatic city near the Baltic Sea. The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation founded the Kolleg in 2002 together with the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the University of Greifswald in order to strengthen the excellence of the university. The Alfried Krupp Fellows Programme, which is at the heart of the Kolleg's work, was established in 2007 and has since been carried out with the generous support of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation. It enables the fellows to concentrate on a major scientific project independently of teaching commitments and administrative tasks.
In the academic year 2026/27, the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald will focus on the following interdisciplinary topic: Interdisciplinary research into the Baltic Sea region - from culture to ecology
Researchers from all disciplines working in these subject areas are particularly invited to apply. Applications from other research areas of all disciplines are also very welcome and will be assessed according to their quality and networking with the University of Greifswald.
Target Group
Outstanding academic personalities with a proven track record in research and teaching can apply for an Alfried Krupp Senior Fellowship.
The Alfried Krupp Junior Fellowships are awarded to particularly qualified young researchers with a doctorate.

Additional insurance benefits as well as travel and laboratory costs are not covered by the Kolleg.
The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg supports applicants who wish to take up their fellowship in the company of a partner and/or children.
Co Financing
Applicants for a Senior Fellowship are asked to consider combining a research semester at their home university with a six-month fellowship for a one-year research stay at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg. If possible, applications for Alfried Krupp Senior Fellowships should also include information on a possible contribution by the home institution to the costs of the research stay at the Kolleg. The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg assumes that Alfried Krupp Junior Fellows will be on leave from their home institution for the duration of their research stay. If a researcher's home institution is willing to contribute to the funding of the research stay at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg, this is welcomed. In this case, information on the type and amount of a possible contribution is requested.

Application Requirements
It is expected that the Alfried Krupp fellows will pursue a major research project during their stay and, if possible, complete it. Fellows are also expected to live at the Kolleg and establish their centre of life here. The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg welcomes it when fellows offer a course at the Kolleg for students of the University of Greifswald.
