The Baden Württemberg Foundation endowed the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for university students which is intended for
- undergraduate, graduate and PhD students of outstanding academic merit from any subject area at higher-education institutions in Land of Baden-Württemberg (Deutschland) and their partner universities abroad.
- students who wish to spend one to two semesters studying at a partner university in Baden-Württemberg or abroad.
The Foundation will not fund entire Bachelor’s, Master’s or doctoral programmes.
Applications will be accepted exclusively via the International Offices of the single higher-education institutions in Baden-Württemberg. For any relevant information on the application procedure please contact an International Office either at a higher-education institution in Baden-Württemberg or at your home university.
Each year, the Baden-Württemberg STIPENDIUM affords about 1,400 students from all over the world the opportunity to spend a limited period of time studying abroad. The funding is in general equally divided between candidates from Baden-Württemberg und applicants from abroad
The programme is intended for highly qualified undergraduates, graduates and doctoral candidates from all disciplines at institutions of higher education in Baden-Wuerttemberg and their partner institutions abroad.
Number of Scholarships
about 1,400 sponsorships scholarships per year
The funding period ranges from three to 11 months.
The scholarship amount may vary depending on the distance to the partner university, potential tuition fees, the differing cost of living in the host countries, possible currency differences or particular visa requirements, etc. It is calculated individually and worth between EUR 600 and EUR 1,400 per month. Scholars will be part of an extensive international network in which people from different cultures and subject areas get in touch.

The higher-education institutions will typically call for applications until 31 March of each year. Applications are considered for the funding period starting in autumn of that same year. Please note that the date of the application deadline may vary and make sure to contact the International Office (or equivalent office) at your home university.
Beside an excellent academic record, selection criteria include the applicants' social and intercultural skills; candidates are also selected on the basis of the principle of equal opportunity. As part of their internationalisation strategies the single institutions of higher education have the liberty to limit their selection to candidates from determined disciplines, i.e. for certain exchange programmes.
