Programme Description
The one-year scholarships are intended for graduates from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine who plan to complete postgraduate studies (i.e. Master's programmes), PhDs or one-year research sojourns at a Bavarian higher-education institution. The one-year scholarship can be generally extended twice for up to 3 years. An average of 40 scholarships worth 934 EUR per month are awarded each year. Single parents or scholars with at least one child may be awarded a monthly amount of 1,094 EUR. The programme aims to support scientific cooperation and academic exchange between the state of Bavaria and Eastern Europe.
Target Group
graduates from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine who plan to complete doctoral or postgraduate studies at a Bavarian higher-education institution. One-year research stays are also sponsored.

Scholarship Value
The grant is paid in 12 instalments and has a value of 11,208 EUR per year (934 EUR per month). Students with at least one child may receive 13,128 EUR (1,094 EUR per month).

Application requirements
Application Requirements
- citizenship of one of the participating countries: Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine
- Candidates must hold permanent residence in the country of origin at the time of application.
- Graduates must be under 30 and doctoral candidates under 35 years of age when the scholarship is first awarded. (Exceptions to this can be requested individually.)
- financial need, i.e., the stay can be financed neither out of the applicant's own resources nor by a third party
- sufficient knowledge of German or English
- outstanding academic achievements
- Candidates must be enroled at a Bavarian higher-education institution during the scholarship period.
