Target group

The course targets international students with a good knowledge of German who are studying in technical or scientific degree programmes or who are specifically interested in technology and natural sciences.

Description/content

The course focuses on various topics from the fields of science and technology, tailored to current developments and the respective professional backgrounds of the participants. Possible topics include climate change, renewable energies or AI in the natural sciences. Teaching is connected to real-life situations and includes extracurricular learning venues in addition to the lessons in class.

Linguistically, the focus will be on communication and developing a confident command of the German language, customised for specific situations. Grammar and technical language aspects will be practised and refined at an advanced level.

The course amounts to 25 hours per week (17 hours of general language and eight hours of technical language).

The rent for a room in a dormitory is 300 EUR to 400 EUR. The rent for a room with a host family is 300 EUR, plus a deposit of 50 EUR.

Description of social and leisure programme

We offer our participants a varied leisure programme. For example, they can discover Bielefeld and the surrounding area, cook meals together, learn more about the German football culture (including a visit to the stadium of Arminia Bielefeld), watch current German films, or make use of the university's sports programme. The German course includes two excursions, e.g. to Bonn and Münster.
