The CRC 392 — Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) provides interdisciplinary training for doctoral candidates in the field of molecular evolution and origin of life. Addressing this complex topic requires the integration of physical, chemical, biological, geological, astronomical, and theoretical approaches within a highly collaborative research environment. The programme is built on internationally established standards of doctoral education and aims to develop independent, communicative, and collaborative researchers beyond the boundaries of their original disciplines.
Doctoral candidates benefit from a comprehensive qualification programme that combines general scientific training with specialised method courses, transferable skills training, and career development workshops. The IRTG fosters early independence by actively involving doctoral candidates in the planning and organisation of scientific events, including conferences, workshops, and exchange activities. In addition, candidates contribute to science communication and public outreach by developing concepts and content for the CRC 392 outreach programme.

Basic fee of 97 EUR + additional fee for the "Deutschlandticket" (subject to change)
Living costs (including accommodation and health insurance) in Munich range from 800 to 1,000 EUR per month.
PhD positions are funded through a university contract at the host institution, usually at a 75% position.
