The Munich Graduate School of Economics (MGSE) offers a distinguished doctoral programme in Economics to outstanding young and motivated researchers.

Doctoral candidates at the MGSE are provided with thorough training in advanced methods in economics. They are taken to the frontier of state-of-the-art research. Members are integrated into a stimulating research environment composed of an ambitious and excellent faculty and a large network of research institutions and facilities. The MGSE does not charge tuition fees for attending the doctoral programme.

As the umbrella organisation for the department's graduate education the MGSE coordinates various institutions and programmes. All doctoral candidates from these institutions or programmes conduct their research and their doctoral studies under the doctoral regulations of the Department of Economics.

Generally, doctoral candidates are paid according to a 75% position under the German TVL-E 13 payment scheme (or a roughly equivalent scholarship). The exact salary varies slightly depending on personal circumstances, the affiliated institution and the teaching load the position carries (max. five hours per week during the semester).

Academic admission requirements

The standard entry requirement is a completed Master's degree in economics. We expect knowledge in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics at an advanced Master's level.

Exceptions from this rule are possible in special circumstances. In these cases, any missing graduate-level training will be specified in an individual supervision agreement, with suitable courses to be chosen from the department's Master's programme economics.
