Reflecting the interdisciplinary programme character, courses will be taught by lecturers from our natural science and engineering departments as well as from the participating research institutes and companies.
Each year we bring together highly motivated and talented international students from a variety of science and engineering backgrounds. We aim to ensure that all students enter our programmes at the same level and successfully complete their Master's degrees.
Over the course of three semesters, lectures, seminars, and laboratories will be offered in Physical Chemistry, Organic and Inorganic Materials Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Energy Science and Technology, Surfaces/Interfaces/Heterogeneous and Electrocatalysis, and Simulation and Modelling.
The final semester is reserved for the Master's thesis, which is research oriented and lasts for six months (full time).

Academic requirements of the Energy Science and Technology MSc programme:
Prerequisites for entrance to the Master's degree programme in Energy Science and Technology are as follows:
1. A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, applied chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, energy science with a natural scientific focus, physical sciences or a degree that is at least equivalent from a university, a university of applied sciences, a cooperative university or a recognised foreign higher education institution in the field of chemistry, applied chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, energy science with a natural scientific focus, physical sciences or in a related or subject-specific programme with a minimum duration of three years of study, demonstrated by either
2. study and exam achievements from laboratory courses in chemistry or comparable experiment-based modules in chemistry corresponding to at least 8 ECTS credits, from modules in mathematics corresponding to at least 8 ECTS credits and from modules in physics corresponding to at least 8 ECTS credits,
3. a study-related, tabular CV of a maximum of two pages with (if available) corresponding proof of employment (job references, internship certificates, etc.),
4. the ability to conduct independent scientific work, demonstrated in particular by a thesis or comparable achievement corresponding to 9 ECTS credits,
5. a written one-page report (in German or English) in which personal and subject-related reasons for applying for the chosen study programme are stated and the choice of programme (letter of motivation) is explained, and
6. adequate English language skills according to § 3 (2) of the applicable statutes on the required language skills for studying at Ulm University.
Student assistant jobs are regularly offered by institutes in all faculties as well as in the central administration. Student assistants help with the preparation and execution of tutorials, work on research projects, or help with administrative tasks. Furthermore, several companies with strong ties to the university are located on campus (e.g. Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Continental, BMW Car IT, Sartorius, and more) and offer the possibility of student jobs.
Students admitted to the programme have the opportunity to have a room reserved in one of the student residences. The university has several residences (all within a bus ride or walking distance from campus) featuring fully furnished rooms for one person and a kitchen and bathroom that are shared with a few other students.

Rental rates vary. If desired, student accommodation in halls of residence can be arranged immediately after admission by the coordination office. Private accommodation must be arranged by the students themselves.
