The language of instruction and communication within the graduate school is English. Most staff members speak German and other languages. The research and student community in the building is international and polyglot.
You can join our graduate school any time after you have begun your PhD. We are especially happy to welcome you at the very beginning of your PhD journey.
The goal of HGS MathComp is to support you during your PhD journey by providing an individualised training programme, networking opportunities, and funding schemes.
Located in a vibrant research environment, HGS MathComp provides structured interdisciplinary training for PhD students. The programme supports you in pursuing innovative PhD projects with a strong application-oriented focus, ranging from mathematics, computer science, bio/life sciences, physics, and chemical engineering sciences to cultural heritage. A strong emphasis is placed on the mathematical and computational foundations, encompassing theoretical underpinnings and computational abstraction and conception.
Your membership in a graduate school is independent of your PhD project, which is tied to your supervisor or research group. For most of our PhD fellows, membership in a graduate school is optional. Only a few PhD programmes at Heidelberg University require it. This depends on the faculty to which you apply.
The information provided in this entry applies only to HGS MathComp. Please also refer to your doctoral degree regulations ("Promotionsordnung"). Organisational support for PhD students is provided by the Graduate Academy at Heidelberg University.
