Description/content

The "International Performance Analysis of Sport" Master of Science programme is an inter-university Master's course of study that involves three European universities: Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, University Tras-os-Montes (in Vila Real, Portugal) and Lithuanian Sports University (in Kaunas, Lithuania). The Master's programme relies on the mobility resources of the ERASMUS+ scheme for students to be able to complete their academic programme at the three universities.

The Master's course aims to:

  • educate experts in international performance analysis of sport
  • offer specialised quality education to meet labour market demands in the field of sports training
  • provide graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills for them to develop a career in international settings
Course organisation

Courses – Common Subjects:

  1. Motor control and movement analysis (15 ECTS)
  2. Coaching process (15 ECTS)
  3. Computerised sport analysis (15 ECTS)
  4. Research issues in performance analysis (15 ECTS)
  5. Biomechanical analysis of sport techniques (15 ECTS)
  6. Research methodology in empirical observation (15 ECTS)
  7. Scientific applied work (10 ECTS)
  8. Master's thesis (20 ECTS)

Modules 1 and 2 will be taught at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany.
Modules 3 and 4 will be taught at University of Tras-os-Montes in Vila Real, Portugal.
Modules 5 and 6 will be taught at Lithuanian Sports University in Kaunas, Lithuania.
Module 7 will be completed at one of the three universities, which is to be chosen by the students.
Module 8 will be managed by the university with which the students registered.

This study programme takes place in three different countries in Europe:

  • first semester in Magdeburg (Germany)
  • second semester in Vila Real (Portugal)
  • third semester in Kaunas (Lithuania)

The internship will take place in the fourth semester and will last a minimum of 12 weeks.

Semester contribution

Currently, the semester fee is 155.20 EUR. It covers services offered by the "Studentenwerk" (student union) and the student representatives. Enrolled students receive a semester ticket for free use of public transport, student discounts in the campus cafeteria, etc.

Costs of living

A minimum of 861 EUR per month must be budgeted for accommodation, cost of living, health insurance, books, and miscellaneous expenses. In comparison with many other towns and cities, the rental prices in Magdeburg are still relatively low. There are no tuition fees for the majority of programmes, and the semester fee already includes the cost of bus and tram travel within Magdeburg. The university provides a limited number of excellence scholarships. Eligible candidates are students in advanced semesters who clearly show above-average results. Scholarships cannot be provided for new students.

A Bachelor's degree in Sports Science, Sports and Engineering, Physiotherapy or other relevant sports-oriented or technical discipline
Applicants are expected to have a good command of spoken and written English.

Possibility of finding part-time employment

It is possible to find a part-time job as a research or student assistant at one of the faculties or in the university administration (maximum: 80 hours per month). Accommodation

The "Studentenwerk" (student union) in Magdeburg manages the on-campus halls of residence (mostly one- to four-room apartments). Currently, the monthly rent ranges from 200 to 370 EUR per room (approx. 12 to 35 square meters), depending on the size and furnishing. Rooms in the halls of residence are limited in number. The accommodation application can be found on the website of the Studentenwerk.
The Studentenwerk assists all new students in finding adequate accommodation, either on or off campus. Private accommodation is available on the Magdeburg accommodation market. However, fully furnished units are in somewhat short supply.
