Description/content

The Economics and Finance Master’s programme is a consecutive course of studies that expands upon your undergraduate foundation of economics and finance studies. It is designed to consolidate your existing expertise and enhance your knowledge with advanced specialist qualifications in these fields.

The programme will impart to you cutting-edge methods, applications and models found in economics, corporate finance, and the analysis of international financial markets. Through experiments in game theory, behavioural economics and finance as well as empirical market analysis, you will develop and learn how to employ a sophisticated research methodology. The curriculum explores not only financial issues but also important economy-wide phenomena. The general aim is to enable students to make the linkages between several economic theories and the decision-making process. You will examine, among other things, the factors that impact competition among firms as well as the financial and overall goods markets. The curriculum highlights the complex relationships between governments, businesses and consumers while maintaining a value-oriented and ethics-based approach. Upon completion of your studies, you will be able to effectively evaluate economic issues in industrial and financial markets on both the national and international scale.

The Master’s degree programme is taught entirely in English, allowing you to gain fluency and confidence in the advanced terminology and nomenclature within your field of study. This dimension that is added to your academic and professional profile will help you stand out as a candidate who is an internationally-oriented expert in economics and finance.

Course organisation

The duration of the programme is three or four semesters, depending on the applicant's Bachelor's degree. The first two semesters serve for the imparting of methods, applications and models in the areas of economics, finance, and international financial market analysis. In both semesters, there is also the possibility of a thematic focus through elective courses. The final semester is dedicated to the preparation and writing of a Master's thesis, which can be done in cooperation with stakeholders from financial institutions, industry, or public institutions.

University location

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is centrally and conveniently located on the Lower Rhine between the Netherlands and the Rhine-Ruhr metropolis.

Kleve, where our main Campus is located, is a city rich in tradition and history, and it currently has 53,000 residents. It offers the best of both worlds: the bustle and excitement of nearby cities like Nijmegen, Düsseldorf, and Cologne with the safety, comfort, and ambience of a smaller town. The flat landscapes, mild climate, and good infrastructure of the Lower Rhine make it ideal for getting around by bicycle. Noteworthy sights include the Swan Castle, Baroque-style botanical gardens, museums, and art galleries. The town is home to large department stores and smaller boutiques, pubs, cafés, and more. Students can also participate in a range of sports offered both by the university and local clubs.

Kamp-Lintfort, our campus for the Faculty of Communication and Environment, has a current population of around 39,000 and is located 60 km (37 miles) south of Kleve. Kamp-Lintfort takes its name from a nearly 900-year-old monastery, maintained in its original style to this day. The city's proximity to the Rhine-Ruhr metropolis made it an integral part of post-WWII coal production in Germany. In recent years, Kamp-Lintfort has redefined itself as a hub of technology, innovation, and higher education. The Kamp-Lintfort campus is centrally and conveniently located in the centre of town. In addition to its historical sights, Kamp-Lintfort offers a welcoming and safe atmosphere for students with numerous shops, pubs, cafés, and sports.
