Description/content

Our concept
Being successful in business has long ceased to depend on product quality alone. Globalisation, the opening of new markets, and climate change as well as changes in customer behaviour are just a few examples of the areas that require sustainable business management. Those who want to be successful both domestically and internationally have to be able to recognise and analyse opportunities in the marketplace – and seize on them with a sustainable approach.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) Wine, Sustainability & Sales provides an internationally-oriented course of study for working professionals, focusing on sustainable management and sales concepts. Problem-solving strategies and business methods are taught using real-world examples on a university level.

In addition to the classic business administration content of a traditional MBA, the programme places a focus on sales as well as environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Students also receive intensive instruction in the latest developments in the international wine market, consumer research and marketing, and sensory analysis of wine. At the same time, students also become well acquainted with the world of international wines, their special features, and their sensory characteristics.

Maximum practical relevance is an important aspect in our Master's programme. During the lectures, many practical examples are scientifically analysed and discussed in the group. Students can contribute their own operational questions and, for example, develop solutions as part of a case study. It is also possible to choose a subject that is relevant for one's own company as part of the Master's thesis.

Who we address

The Master's programme is targeted at both experienced professionals from the wine industry and wine enthusiasts from related and unrelated fields who want to develop themselves professionally and personally and learn how to set up their business sustainably and successfully for the future.

The attendance times are fixed well in advance so that international students can plan their stay at the Weincampus Neustadt during the attendance weeks in the long term.

Course organisation

Minimal on-campus presence
The MBA programme can be completed with only 36 days of attendance – a flexible lecture schedule allows students to continue working full-time.
On-campus weeks, which consist of workshops, seminars, and lectures, take place during the first three semesters. In the fourth semester, students research and write the Master's thesis. Because of the minimal on-campus presence, it is suitable for employees and entrepreneurs from around the world.

Our blended learning approach is based on three core elements:

  • Independent studies: using online textbooks and learning materials

  • Face-to-face study: residential teaching phases for discussions, reflection, and networking

Weincampus Neustadt

More than ever before, today’s domestic and international wine industry demands that its business leaders bring not only practical experience but also academic and theoretical knowledge to the job. The Weincampus Neustadt was founded in 2009 to prepare the next generation of young professionals in the wine industry.

Since its founding, the Weincampus Neustadt has earned a respected reputation both in Germany and abroad. Our degree programmes are distinguished by a combination of real-world experience, academic theory, and research, and our satisfied students enjoy excellent career opportunities after graduation.

This programme is made possible by cooperation among three universities of applied sciences in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Bingen, and Kaiserslautern as well as the Dienstleistungszentrum Ländlicher Raum (DLR) Rheinpfalz (Rural Service Centre of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate) along with over 300 partner companies throughout Germany. Our students enrol and earn their academic degrees at the state-accredited University of Applied Sciences Ludwigshafen am Rhein, which also leads and organises these cooperative educational programmes.

Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society

In 1996, the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society became an independent university of applied sciences. It was originally part of the University of Applied Sciences of the Rhineland Palatinate, founded in 1971. With more than 4,500 students and about 80 teachers in four departments, it is actively integrated into the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. Its range of courses includes studies in the areas of economic and social sciences. The relevance of the study courses on practice has been one of the most important focuses right from the beginning, combined with an international orientation. In a dialogue with the economy and its needs, the range of courses is being expanded continually. The university's competence lies in the business management courses with an international alignment. There is an intense mediation of business management functions at the focus of most study courses.

The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society signed the Charter of Diversity in December 2010. The university of applied sciences now belongs to a group of approx. 900 companies and public facilities who consider the introduction of a corporate culture based on recognition and valuation of diversity to be a key factor for their success. In this context, the university of applied sciences considers diversity in its culture and processes, informs and raises awareness among its employees, and reports regularly on current trends, conferences, projects, and many activities.
The Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society stands for:

  • mutual respect and valuation
  • living diversity and equal opportunities
  • reflection and designed change
  • dialogue orientation and open-mindedness
  • ability to handle criticism and participation

University location

Neustadt

The wine-growing region where the campus is located is called Palatinate and it’s located in the area of Bad Dürkheim, Neustadt an der Weinstraße, and Landau in Rhineland-Palatinate. With 23,461 hectares (57,970 acres) under cultivation in 2008, the region is the second-largest wine region in Germany. There are about 6,800 vintners producing around 6.5 million hectolitres of wine annually.

Ludwigshafen

Ludwigshafen is a city in the south-west of Germany. It is located on the River Rhine, opposite Mannheim, and has nearly 164,000 inhabitants. The city is well known as the headquarters of the world's largest chemical company, BASF. With Mannheim and Heidelberg, Ludwigshafen is one of the three big cities of the Rhine-Neckar Region, which is the seventh-largest economic region in Germany, with 2.3 million inhabitants. The harbour of Ludwigshafen/Mannheim is Europe's second-largest inland harbour. Due to its excellent infrastructure connections by river, rail, or road, the core competences of the location are logistics and traffic engineering as well as the chemical industry and health care.
