The Mechatronics degree programme is devised to meet the multidisciplinary requirements of today's industry. This engineering discipline combines the competences from areas of electrical and mechanical engineering with information processing. The teaching staff has vast industrial experience and is actively involved in research and development in cooperation with national and multinational enterprises. A graduation in the field of Mechatronics at THWS opens many doors to a fascinating career as an engineer.

Course organisation

Semester 1-3: Basic and foundation modules (Mathematics, Physics, Programming, Computing, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Mechanics, Microcomputer Systems, System Theory, System Modelling, General Electives, Labs etc.)
Semester 4-5: Core modules (Measuring Techniques, Actuators, Control Systems, Logical Control, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, Modelling and Simulation of Mechatronic Systems, Labs, etc.)
Specialisation modules (a wide range of specialisation modules with direct industrial relevance to automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital hardware design, cryptography, power engineering, manufacturing, biomedical engineering and automotive sector)
Semester 6: Internship and engineering seminar
Semester 7: Industrial project, inter-disciplinary labs, ethics, costing, thesis

  • Compulsory scholastic aptitude test: TestAS with a minimum of 100 points in each module (Core Test and Subject-Specific Test: Engineering) or SAT (test requires a minimum composite score of 1,050) is required for all non-EU applicants in order to enrol.
  • Secondary education diploma (A level or equivalent)
  • If required: evidence of periods of study or certificates

Possibility of finding part-time employment

In order to finance your living expenses during your studies, you can look for a student job. However, please note that your focus should always be on your studies.

Students from non-EU countries may work 120 full days or 240 half days per year. If you work as a student assistant at a university or a company, the number of days may be higher.

Students from EU countries: There are no restrictions.

The Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) was established in 1971, with campuses in two locations in Würzburg and Schweinfurt. Today, the THWS is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Bavaria (southern Germany). Course offerings
With its 10 departments and more than 40 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as six research institutes, the THWS offers a broad, practice- and future-oriented course programme.
