Description/content

Language instruction with a specific thematic focus (aspects of economics and business administration, European Union, information business as the economy of the future, New Economy or Old Economy); technical terminology; exercises, seminars on current economic and social topics; lectures on the German language and on German culture and civilisation
Please note: Business German is primarily a language course, not a course in economics. Assignment to class levels is not based on students' knowledge of economics; it is based solely on students' language proficiency.

Type of accommodation

Basic single rooms for students are provided upon request. Rooms are either in student residences, in privately owned shared student flats, or in private houses. Shower facilities are available; it is usually possible to use the shared kitchen.

The rent for such a single room is 450 EUR on average.

Meals

Summer school participants are welcome to eat at the student restaurants and cafeterias for affordable student prices. Meals will be available from morning until evening.

  • Opening ceremony, welcome party, farewell party
  • Workshops: theatre, songs and singing, journalism, video production, ballroom dancing
  • Recreational activities: concerts, film nights, sports
  • Excursions around Heidelberg (included in course fee)
  • Weekend excursions offered at an additional cost of approx. 40 EUR
  • Each class will be accompanied by a native German-speaking student at Heidelberg University who will provide insight into Heidelberg student life and leisure activities.

Internationality has always been a characteristic feature of Heidelberg University. As early as 1926, the university organised the first International Summer School of German Language and Culture. The school attracts more than 500 students from all over the world every year. The International Summer School's programme is noted for combining high-quality language instruction at all levels – from elementary courses to advanced seminars for German as a Foreign Language (GFL) teachers and postgraduate students of German – with a whole range of additional activities and an extensive social and cultural programme.
