Students of any subject, graduates, teachers of German and prospective students are equally welcome. The average age of our summer course participants is 18 to 25.

Description/content

Aachener Sprachsommer: Learn German & Experience Europe

Our summer courses are suitable for students and others who seek to improve their German skills in international groups and wish to experience the multifaceted German way of life during the daily lessons as well as in their free time. Intensive German courses are offered at levels B2-C1 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages. You will expand your vocabulary and your knowledge of German grammar, train your oral and written communication skills and learn a lot about German culture. Group and project tasks allow creative use of the German language. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate and five ECTS points.

Apart from the daily lessons, there is a lot more to learn during varied group activities, excursions in the Aachen region and European city trips to Amsterdam and Paris!

Funding: application for DAAD-HSK scholarship

For this course DAAD university summer course scholarships (usually starting at language level B1) are available. If you wish to apply for this course, you can find all necessary information about the scholarship programme and its application requirements here. To submit your application, please note the HSK-reference number listed below the course date of your choice (category „dates and costs“). This number can only be used for presence courses. Applying for attending online courses is not possible.

Accommodation is arranged by the organiser.
Type of accommodation

We offer to accommodate participants in student housing. Participants have the following options: single rooms (630 EUR) or twin rooms (410 EUR). Please note that the number of rooms is limited. Kitchens and bathrooms are usually shared. Internet access is provided.

Accommodation is available from the first day of the course until the afternoon of the last course day.

Apart from the university dining hall, many restaurants in the city centre offer international dishes at affordable prices.

Description of social and leisure programme

Cross-border leisure activities! Many different cultural and recreational activities will be offered in and around Aachen, e.g., social get-togethers, guided city tours, film nights, visits to museums, trips to interesting places in Aachen's environs, an international dinner and several other social and cultural events. Summer course participants will not only get to know Germany, but they will also get to know Germany's neighbours, as our European city trips take you to Amsterdam and Brussels on the weekends!
