Description/content

This Master's degree programme offers you the chance to obtain an excellent advanced qualification in the field of pharmacoeconomics and health economics, health products, and market access. It is an international programme with a close link between theory and practice. The programme includes 12 weeks of residency placement in Germany or abroad.
The main focus of the programme is to provide specific knowledge of pharmacoeconomics as well as methodical and strategic knowledge for international health markets. Market access, pricing and reimbursement, ethical resource allocation, and market strategies for pharmaceuticals and medical devices are the main topics of this course of study.
The course of study thereby provides students with a sound base of knowledge and methodologies to solve problems and deal with challenges in pharmaceutical technology and medical technology. It also enables students to evaluate alternative strategies from both the perspective of the healthcare system and the perspective of business. The programme is conducted in a multicultural environment.
Completion of this Master's degree programme opens up a wide range of career options – for example, as an expert in regulatory affairs, international pricing policy, or health economics, or as a market access manager.

Course organisation

The study programme is known and loved by specialists in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector around the world and is ideal for natural scientists looking for a change of career. Become an expert in licensing processes and pricing. Gain the necessary qualifications for more senior roles at public authorities, institutes, or companies in the industry. At around 75%, the proportion of international students is a defining characteristic of the study programme. You will not only acquire the skills to meet the international requirements for qualified health economists but also familiarise yourself with healthcare systems from many cultural areas and benefit from an intensive exchange of ideas with your fellow students.

In addition to internationality and interdisciplinarity, the Master’s programme is characterised by its high level of practical content. As part of your internship, you will spend six months on in-company placements. Around 80% of students also complete their Master’s theses there – and many are then taken on as salaried employees.

With us, you will learn to understand and analyse industry processes from an economic perspective. We will teach you methods such as statistics and cost-benefit analysis. As a graduate, you will be aware of how healthcare systems are established and funded, what political and regulatory factors play a role in the licensing of new drugs and medical devices, and how pricing structures work.

The Master’s programme runs for two years with an internship in the third semester. The programme content at a glance:

  • Economics and Pharmacoeconomics
  • Research and Statistical Skills
  • Global Health Product Development and Regulations
  • Economic Evaluation and Modelling Techniques
  • Ethical Resource Allocation

Integrated internships

The residency placement in the third semester is obligatory and will be carried out in selected organisations involved in health economics and pharmaceutical and medical device technology, where students gain insight into the working pattern of such institutions and may apply knowledge to concrete problems in the health care sector. Support in initial placement as well as supervision during the internship will be provided.
