Description/content

The MSc Cellular and Immunological Biosciences – From Single Cells to Plants, Animals, and Humans provides a thorough understanding of cellular and immunological processes and their underlying molecular mechanisms in normal and malfunctioning cells and tissues, teaches the knowledge of techniques to study them, and prepares you to find solutions together with the international and interdisciplinary research community.

The two-year programme offers a research-centred qualification with a high academic standard in the areas of molecular biologycell biologyimmunology, and systems biology with English as the teaching language.

The MSc CIB programme is exceptional in highlighting comparative aspects of cellular and immunological processes in a variety of model systems – single cells, yeast, plants, Drosophila, and cultures of human cells & tissues – during development, homeostasis, and disease, and in providing hands-on experience on a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art methods.

Academic admission requirements

Bachelor's degree with a grade of at least 2.5 (German grading system)

The selection criterion for the ranking list is the Bachelor's degree grade. The exact grade required for admission cannot be specified, as it depends on the number of applicants for the 45 available places. In previous years, the grade limit was around 2.0.

A grade of 2.5 or better can be "improved" by bonus points, e.g. by an authorship of a scientific publication.
More details at MSc CIB / Application & Admission

Language requirements

All applicants require a proof of English language proficiency: native speaker, English-language Bachelor's degree, TOEFL 95, IELTS 6.0, or English B2; or notification of English level B2 or higher on higher education entrance qualification, e.g. Abiturzeugnis; or a recognised higher education entrance qualification obtained in English and in a country whose official language is English; or BSc degree from a country with English as official language.

International applicants require a proof of German language proficiency: Goethe-Zertifikat A2, Telc A2, ÖSD A2; or German as native language; or a BSc degree with German as teaching language.

Possibility of finding part-time employment

Students may find jobs as research assistants for projects of the Department of Biology or affiliated research institutes.

Accommodation

Accommodation is available through the Student Services organisation (“Studierendenwerk“) or on the private market. Rooms in student accommodation cost approx. 200 to 400 EUR per month. As Tübingen is a very attractive place to live, private accommodation is more expensive and can take some effort to find. To make sure you find a suitable place to live, you should start looking as early as possible.

We recommend you apply for student accommodation through the “Studierendenwerk” at the same time that you apply for admission to the Master's programme (https://www.my-stuwe.de/en/housing/halls-of-residence-tuebingen/ and https://www.my-stuwe.de/en/housing/faqs/) and send in a copy of your notification of admission as soon as you have received it (your application won’t be finally processed before the “Studierendenwerk” has received proof of your admission). For further information, check out the “Studierendenwerk” pages on housing in Tübingen (https://www.my-stuwe.de/en/housing/housing-infos/).
