Target group

This course is intended for students and teachers of German who want to expand their knowledge of German language, literature and culture. Other people who are interested are welcome as well.

Description/content

The programme focuses on literature and cultural and regional studies. It deals with the changing role of animals in historical and present German literature, culture and society.
Seminars on grammar, vocabulary, stylistics and creative writing will help students to improve their language skills. Furthermore, there will be a seminar on teaching techniques as well as a drama group, a choir and a newspaper group.
Excursions and social programme events complement the course programme. The course has a modular schedule, which enables each participant to choose an individual timetable that focuses on his/her own interests.

Profound knowledge of the German language is required in order to be able to follow classes and participate in discussions during seminars. The language of instruction is German.

Single room in a dormitory

Participants can reserve a room in a dormitory (either a single room with a kitchen and a bathroom or a room in a double apartment with two separate private bedrooms, a shared kitchen and a shared bathroom). The price for the accommodation (without breakfast) is 300 EUR.

Meals

Inexpensive meals for lunch are available in the student restaurant (average price: 3 EUR).

University of Bamberg

The University of Bamberg was founded in 1647 and is one of the oldest universities in Bavaria. Currently, about 12,000 students study at the University of Bamberg.

University location

The University of Bamberg is situated in the city of Bamberg, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Register in 1993. Bamberg, with its more than 2,400 heritage-protected buildings, has approx. 75,000 inhabitants. Added to the city's appeal are Bamberg's location in the Regnitz Valley and its seven hills as well as its close proximity to "Franconian Switzerland", the Haßberge Hills, the Steigerwald Nature Park, and the Upper Main River Valley.
