The first semesters are designed to provide you with all the required business administration tools like business mathematics, economics, and business statistics. Additionally, you will undergo special trainings on intercultural competence, meet experts of internationally operating medium-sized companies and global players in a range of hands-on projects. You will obtain an insight into operating modes, risks and task scopes of globally active businesses. Furthermore, you will enhance your English language skills and acquire at least one other foreign language.

The International Business degree programme develops the students' understanding of international business in a globalised world. Based on the latest theoretical concepts of business administration, the programme will equip students with the key business skills to work successfully in an international business environment. Furthermore, the programme offers a range of specialisations that will allow students to deepen their knowledge and meet their individual goals.

An internship with a duration of at least 18 weeks (full-time employment) in a company/institution in Germany or abroad is integrated in the study programme (sixth semester). The department staff supports the students in finding an internship.

Academic Admission Requirements

The International Business Degree programme does not require applicants to pass an aptitude test. You can apply for a place within the application period in the application portal of the OTH Amberg-Weiden.

Language requirements

A special feature of the programme is that it is completely held in English. For this reason, there are special qualification requirements for the programme that applicants should meet:

  • Applicants with a school-leaving certificate at a foreign school are advised to submit a certificate of recognition of the school-leaving certificate issued by a certified institution (e.g., uni-assist) by the end of the application period. The decision on admission to studies is made by the examination board.
  • An adequate knowledge of the English language must be demonstrated by a proof of language proficiency at level B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This proof can be provided by a valid/current IBT (Internet-based test) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a score of at least 80, IELTS Cambridge Test with 6, the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) with a score of at least 780, or an equivalent proof, e.g., by corresponding modules in the school-leaving certificate. Proof is not required if the university entrance qualification or the university degree was obtained in English.
  • Basic knowledge of German must be proven at level A2 within one year.

Student dorms are located within walking distance of the campus. The apartments have a small kitchen unit and a bathroom with shower. The dorms offer a recreation and a laundry room. All of them have special apartments for disabled students and for students with children.

The university offers a portfolio of 32 study programmes in four departments (Mechanical Engineering/Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering/Media Production and Media Technology/Computer Sciences, Industrial Engineering and Business Studies), which all reflect current developments in engineering and the economy. Nationwide unique programmes such as Patent Engineering at our location in Amberg are complemented by programmes in Renewable Energies, Plastics Engineering, Applied Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology or Media Production and Media Technology. The profile of the campus in Weiden is complemented by programmes in Medical Engineering, Service and Retail Management and Industrial Technology Management. Both locations also offer consecutive Master's programmes.
