You will study in the format of semesters for two years (winter semester: October to February, and summer semester: April to July).
The deadline for applications for students starting in October (winter semester) is 15 April. Late applications may be considered, but only if there are free places and only if it is still possible to start on time in Freiberg (i.e. until the start of lectures in October). The English-taught MBA programme in International Business and Resources in Emerging Markets provides future managers from the East and West with the theoretical and practical insights into modern international business administration and development economics needed to excel in top careers. Particularities of management of intellectual capital, natural resources, and the environment are complemented with intercultural competencies in markets of former transitional, emerging or developing countries. This allows the students to understand and participate in current and future opportunities in the transition and development issues of worldwide business.
Our full-time MBA programme is designed to be completed over two academic years. It starts in the first week of October each year. Proficiency in the German language is not required. Students may enrol in language courses offered at the partner universities.
The programme collaborates with several hand-selected partner universities; students can choose amongst them to spend a semester abroad. In the IB specialisation, there is the additional possibility to enrol into a double degree programme with a select number of partner universities.
Even though the programme is tuition free, all of the staff of the university, including programme representatives, professors, and research assistants work towards supporting students to achieve their learning objectives.
The first semester consists of the two compulsory modules: "Business Communication" and "Methods of Analysis and Econometrics". Additionally, students select several optional modules, including "International Development and Resources”, "Operations Management", "Multicultural Communication, Language and Rhetoric", "Project Management", “Micro-Economics”, “Information Management”, etc.
In the second semester, the selection of compulsory modules is split between the two specialisations: students from the IB specialisation have “International Business & Management” and “Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour”, whereas students from the RE specialisation have “Climate Change Economics” and “Material Flow Analysis and Life Cycle Assessment”. Each specialisation has its specialised modules on offer: “Financial Management in Emerging & Developing Countries”, “Decision Support Systems”, “International Marketing”, “Macroeconomics”, “Finance in Developing and Emerging Countries”, “Competition Policy and Intellectual Property Rights”, “Supply Chain Management”, and “Organisational Communication” for the IB specialisation, and “Commodity Marketing”, “History of the Environment”, “Reclamation”, “Materials Science”, “Fundamentals of Plastic Deformation”, “Materials Handling”, “Ore Deposits & Economic Geology”, and “Strategies of the Resource Industry” for the RE specialisation.
More modules are on offer for free electives in the English language and in the German language for those who have a command of German. Students who are not native speakers of German are offered the possibility to study German as a foreign language in two consecutive modules during the first and second semesters.
In the third semester, students of the IB specialisation have the opportunity to spend one semester abroad at one of our partner universities. Students who choose the double degree option will stay at the partner university for one year, and the others will stay for one semester and then return to Freiberg for an internship or additional taught modules and the final Master's thesis. Students of the RE specialisation will choose from a wide selection of modules from all faculties of the university that were hand-selected for this purpose.
The taught modules include lectures, tutorials, practical exercises, case studies, and seminars.
At the end of the four semesters (two years), students are required to have earned 120 ECTS points.
In the "International Business" specialisation, the third semester is spent at a partner university. In the double degree options, the third and the final semesters are spent at the partner university.
An internship of nine weeks minimum is an optional part of the programme with 10 ECTS points, and it can be replaced by regular courses.

A committee selects suitable students. The assessment is based on the previous studies and their results, work experience, command of the English language, GMAT/GRE score, and the motivation letter. The following is required:
Proof of English language proficiency: e.g. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with at least 90 points (iBT) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum of band 6.5.
The English test is waived for English native speakers. It may be waived for students who have completed a full Bachelor's or Master's study programme that was taught entirely in English. This is subject to an individual assessment.

It is possible to find part-time employment on campus, e.g. as a student assistant or in the canteen.
Different kinds of accommodations are available on campus and in the city of Freiberg, from single flats to shared flats. Prices vary from 200 EUR to 320 EUR, including utilities. In the dormitory, each student has her/his own room, but usually the bathroom and the kitchen have to be shared with other flatmates. Living in a dormitory is usually the first choice for new international students. There is a good chance that you will get a place in a dormitory if you apply early. The International Office supports international students in finding accommodation.

The university's underground teaching and research mine is open to visitors and serves as a natural laboratory. The mine allows for "hands-on" exploration of the subterranean world of Freiberg, with its extensive mining history dating back to the 14th century.

Freiberg is located in the centre of the state of Saxony in the picturesque Erzgebirge Mountains, 40 km south-west of Dresden and 240 km south of Berlin.
Freiberg is more than 850 years old, and it was founded after the discovery of silver ore in 1168. Today, Freiberg has around 40,000 inhabitants. The medieval heart of the town, which is almost completely intact, is very attractive. It features the Upper Market Square with its late Gothic patrician houses and the Freiberg Cathedral at the Lower Market Square with its famous Silbermann organ and golden portal. Along with the world's oldest town theatre, a modern multiplex cinema, and nightclubs, more than a hundred restaurants, cafés, and pubs invite you to take a break and enjoy life.
There are sports facilities, a modern open-air and indoor swimming pool, and a park which surrounds the town centre like a green belt. Since 2008, the "Terra Mineralia" mineral collection has functioned as a centre of attraction for tourists, students, and inhabitants of Freiberg. The mineral collection, one of the largest collections in the world, is shown in the "Freudenstein", a refurbished castle in the town centre.
The nearby Saxon Switzerland National Park and the Erzgebirge Mountains are beautiful places for a wide variety of outdoor activities, including hiking and climbing in the summer and skiing in the winter. Dresden, Leipzig, and Berlin are easily accessible by train and offer plenty of social, cultural, and recreational alternatives.
