This cutting-edge programme builds upon the international research and graduate teaching expertise of faculty at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich). It familiarises students with key issues and methodologies that are relevant for working at the intersections of environment and society. The programme teaches students to think across and beyond disciplines and to critically analyse and communicate challenges and solutions related to the environment. In their coursework that includes field trips and excursions, students explore environmental topics and challenges worldwide. Subjects include climate change, the transformation of urban and rural environments, biodiversity loss, conservation, environmental justice, pollution, and public health.

Living costs (including accommodation and health insurance) in Munich vary but on average range from 1,000 to 1,200 EUR per month.
Accepted certificates are TOEFL [iBT above 95), IELTS [7.0 or above], Duolingo [120 or above], or Cambridge English Language Assessment [C1 Advanced and above]. Please note that the validity of most test results expires after two years. All applicants need to submit a valid proof of English language proficiency. Exceptions are only made for applicants who are native English speakers and have earned their high-school diploma in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC), part of LMU Munich, is an international centre dedicated to the study of environment and society from a wealth of different disciplines and international perspectives.
As a non-profit institution, the RCC was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of Munich's Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and the Deutsches Museum, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research as a Center for Advanced Study (Käte Hamburger Kolleg). The RCC has since evolved into a permanent centre directed by LMU Munich's Chair in American Cultural History.
