Description/content

Computer science is the driving force behind many innovations. It permeates all areas of life, and it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Our International Computer Science BSc programme is aimed at students who are interested in a concrete education covering the broad field of application-oriented computer science with a particular focus on the development of software engineering in a global context.

The programme is run in English and qualifies students for a spectrum of career opportunities within the global IT market.

It is completed over seven semesters and is characterised by a high degree of practical relevance. Many modules offer practical exercises through exciting "hands on" projects in our modern laboratories.

Our Bachelor’s degree programme teaches the foundation in the various computer science areas. Problem solving in different programming languages is taught as well as global software solutions. Additionally, you will learn the mindset of computer science by developing algorithms, learning how to build user-friendly systems and how to protect them from attacks.

German or Spanish as a foreign language complements the international flair of the curriculum nicely and can be practically implemented during the fifth semester industrial placement. This is a fantastic opportunity at a well-known company or an exciting start-up in Germany or even abroad. Here you can apply all your theoretical knowledge, gain valuable professional experience and also make crucial contacts for your future career.

Why study International Computer Science at OTH Regensburg:

  • Largest computer science department at a university of applied sciences in Bavaria: We offer a broad spectrum of application-oriented subject areas and elective modules with a range of opportunities for specialisation.
  • Practical orientation: We combine a theoretical education with a high degree of practical relevance through an industrial placement.
  • Ideal conditions for studying: An excellent supervision ratio between lecturers and students as well as excellent equipment in a new building guarantee optimal study.
  • Top rankings in the CHE ranking for our computer science programmes: TOP ratings in all areas: overall study environment, support by lecturers, graduation in a reasonable time, international orientation
  • Language competence – German: As a student without knowledge of German, you will learn to level B1 to help qualify and transit to the national job market smoothly.
  • Language competence – international: Students with a domestic degree acquire additional knowledge of Spanish.
  • Continuing consecutive Master's programme in computer science
  • Studying in Regensburg: The degree programme is split over our two city centre sites, predominantly at our Prüfeninger Campus. There is a vibrant student life, a common campus for all higher education institutions and excellent quality of life in a world heritage city with over 30,000 students.
Course organisation

Our International Computer Science BSc programme comprises seven semesters (three and a half years), six theoretical semesters and one practical industrial placement semester. It is divided into three study sections:

  • First study section (first and second semesters)
  • Second study section (third to fifth semester)
  • Third study section (sixth and seventh semester)

In the first study section, the fundamentals are taught. Students receive an insight into the requirements of the degree programme.

The second study section expands on the fundamentals, it teaches special subject knowledge and imparts practice-oriented skills. These are put into practice and particularly deepened in the fifth study semester, the industrial placement semester.

In the third study section, students widen their knowledge through a selection of elective and advanced modules. There is also a focus on the Bachelor’s thesis, in preparation for the seventh and final semester.

After graduating, you will be both qualified and experienced enough to make a smooth transition to one of the many professional computer science opportunities within the global IT market.

International elements

  • Integrated language training
  • Global Software Engineering
  • Software for the Global Market
  • Scientific Seminar
  • Variety of other international modules in English (see curriculum)
  • Students from different countries and cultures

Language choice

The Language Track you join depends on your level of German language skills at the time of application:

  • If you choose the German Language Track (A), no prior German knowledge is required and you do not have to submit a German language certificate.

  • If you choose the Spanish Language Track (B), then you either need to be a German native speaker or provide evidence of German language proficiency at level B1 (or above) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  • Students who do not provide this proof will be assigned to Language Track A and take the corresponding compulsory German language modules during the first four semesters.

Study objective

Our goal is to educate and support students to become computer science experts with practical experience gained from both within our labs and during their industrial placement.

With a degree in International Computer Science, you will be able to:

More than 170 partnerships with other universities of applied sciences guarantee OTH Regensburg a good starting position when it comes to international competition.

Five further courses are also based at the Centre for Continuing Education and Knowledge Management. The link between scientific theory and industrial practice is forged by the Institute of Applied Research and Partnership with Industry (IAFW), with competence centres on themes such as renewable energy, sensor technology, mechatronics, and bioengineering.

Digitalisation is becoming increasingly important for both studying and teaching. The Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics is working to integrate virtual and hybrid teaching concepts into our programmes and building on positive experiences from during the Corona pandemic.

However, we also pursue other innovative teaching concepts to help students acquire new skills. For example, the OTH Regensburg Award for Innovation and Quality in Teaching has been awarded twice (2020 and 2022) to lecturers in the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics.

Modern facilities, an award-winning library and 120 laboratories are all key factors in providing an effective environment to learn, thrive and succeed in your studies at OTH Regensburg.
