The mode of study is flexible for participants depending on their location and personal situation.

Both modes, i.e. online as well as in-person lectures and workshops on campus, are possible and can be combined based on individual preferences. Online modules can be taken at one's own pace. Modules on campus are scheduled according to the semester and lecture dates.

The official starting and ending dates of the programme depend on the semester timetables of the university.

Description/content

Participation in Pre-Study@THM programme includes:

  • attending lectures as a guest student (in the fields of economics, engineering, computer science, and natural sciences) 
  • individual support and advice from student mentors
  • learning materials and tips for studying at the THM (Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen)
  • improving German language skills (workshops, advice, technical language in lectures)
  • uni-assist application advice
  • campus orientation
  • information on financing your studies and scholarships
  • information regarding the support offered by the university
  • lectures, videos, and podcasts

The mentors offer individual advice and support to help participants choose individual modules from the course catalogue of the university. Additionally, the mentors provide comprehensive information about living in Giessen/Hesse and studying at THM.

The programme is supplemented by a wide range of offers and lectures, which will make it easier for participants to start their studies.

Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to participate in our International Buddy Programme and the International Get-Together.

Additionally, we offer technical language courses in preparation for studying at a university of applied sciences.

The participation in the courses of the THM is free. There are no fees for participating in workshops and lectures offered by the International Office. 

Costs may incur for participation in language courses with our partners.

Personal costs (living, housing, etc.) are not included.

Technical equipment and programmes
  • A stable Internet connection and at least a laptop or tablet are required to participate in the online offerings.

The Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) is the one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany and the largest in the state of Hesse. It has its roots in the centre of Hesse and thus has particularly strong ties to partners in the region (e.g. companies, municipalities). With its 12 faculties and the Centre for Cooperative Degrees, THM offers 79 degree programmes to over 15,000 students, of which 12% are internationals (data from winter semester 2023/24). The study programmes are tailored to meet the demands of various sectors and industries. The foundation for the high-quality degree programmes at the THM is laid by the unity of applied research and teaching, which is also characterised by close partnerships with a large number of external partners.

University location

THM is located in the centre of Hesse and has three campuses:

Giessen Campus (65 km north of Frankfurt)

  • the largest THM campus
  • approx. 9,500 students
  • population of Giessen is 94,000, with the highest density of students in Germany

Friedberg Campus (35 km north of Frankfurt)

  • approx 4,300 students
  • Friedberg population 30,000

Wetzlar Campus (65 km north-west of Frankfurt)

  • approx. 1,800 students
  • location of StudiumPlus (THM’s dual study programmes)
  • Wetzlar population: 54,000
