Description/content

CONTRIBUTE TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
While studying Global Environmental and Sustainability Sciences in an international setting, you will acquire the knowledge to scientifically explain and assess global climate and environmental issues. Moreover, you will learn to understand the social values, norms, and behavioural patterns contributing to these problems, enhance your critical thinking abilities, and develop new approaches for a more sustainable processing of natural resources.

As a student of the Global Environmental and Sustainability Sciences programme, you will explore the current sustainability challenges from various disciplinary perspectives to attain a comprehensive understanding of the problems at hand.

In this programme, you will acquire a general foundational knowledge of the subject matter and methodological approaches of both natural and social sciences, including mathematics, statistics, ecology, environmental chemistry, and sustainability communication as well as sustainability management and sustainability governance.

Furthermore, you can establish an individual profile by selecting from a broad spectrum of electives from both the social and natural sciences. Additionally, you will engage in an internationally oriented interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary sustainability research project, collaborating with partners in the field to develop solutions for real-world social challenges related to sustainable development.

Join Leuphana University Lüneburg, at the forefront of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches, specialising in sustainable development in research and teaching for over 30 years.

Leuphana University Lüneburg

Content Bild

The Leuphana University Lüneburg emerged from the special legal mandate of the Lower Saxony state parliament to rethink university and create a model university for the Bologna Process. It is supported by a foundation under public law and sees itself as a space for freely pursuing knowledge, imagination, personal development, and social commitment. For its educational programmes, it has developed a multi-award-winning study model featuring three schools, which is still unique in Germany today. The sponsors of transdisciplinary science initiatives are the five faculties, which align with Leuphana's research priorities in the realms of education, culture, sustainability, management and entrepreneurship, and public affairs.

University location

As a city renowned for its salt, the Hanseatic League, and the Heath, as well as being a university town, Lüneburg offers numerous leisure activities to enrich student life—from the Salt Museum to water-based activities, and from the Heath landscape to student initiatives. For those who would like to explore the surrounding area, the North Sea and Baltic Sea, Hamburg, Hannover, and Bremen are all located nearby. A small, but certainly not comprehensive, glimpse into the leisure activities in Lüneburg can be found below.
