The degree course is consecutive, building upon the Bachelor's degree course in Mechatronics. Mechatronics, a multidisciplinary field of engineering science, is based on the principles of classical disciplines such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and information technology. It deals with the systematic development and technical implementation of new integrated systems characterised by a certain level of "intelligence" and the resultant capability to act independently. Our training for modern engineers aims to impart specialised knowledge and foster systems thinking, transcending disciplinary boundaries, while emphasising teamwork and communication skills.
The Master's degree programme covers the wide range of technical skills required by industry and offers a high degree of flexibility in subject selection. It offers research-oriented study formats with close ties to industry and business.
The double-degree programme is integrated into the existing Master's degree programmes at PUCP and TU Ilmenau (Technische Universität Ilmenau).
The double-degree students spend the first two semesters of the Master's programme alongside their Peruvian fellow students at their home university, concurrently improving their Spanish language proficiency to level B2.
In the third semester, students transfer to the partner university and spend two semesters there. The choice of subjects must be mutually agreed upon with the home university. The Master's thesis is to be completed at the partner university over two semesters, maintaining the same scope. This expands the choice of course content and makes it much easier to carry out experimental parts of the thesis. The minimum length of stay at the partner university is one semester.
The Master's thesis and the oral part of the Master's final examination will be assessed by a bi-national examination board. All credit points earned will be transferred to the grading system of the respective partner university and mutually recognised. The two certificates, each acknowledging the other with the degrees awarded, are only valid when presented together.
The two-semester stay at the partner university, as stipulated in the double-degree programme, allows students to take advantage of nearly all relevant courses offered at the partner institution.
The partner university offers students an alternative elective subject area for specialisation that goes beyond what is offered at the home university.

Applications should be submitted to the responsible examination board with a letter of motivation. Participants in the double-degree programme will be selected and admitted by a committee consisting of representatives from both universities. In cases where there are several applicants, the grade point average, foreign language skills, and level of preparation will be decisive factors.
Final admission to the double-degree programme necessitates a successfully completed Bachelor's degree in "Mechatronics" for students of TU Ilmenau.
Early familiarity with the language of the partner country and participation in study-related language courses are recommended.
For admission to the programme, Spanish language proficiency at an A2 level is required. To start the study phase abroad, a Spanish language certificate at a B2 level is required.

Temporary jobs are available at local enterprises. In some departments of TU Ilmenau, students are regularly employed as scientific assistants.
Various student dormitories are available on campus. Rent for the residences ranges from 225 EUR – 417 EUR per room per month, depending on the type of accommodation. Advance registration is required via the Studierendenwerk Thüringen administrative office.

Student applicants have a good chance of getting a room if the application for a room is submitted in good time, approx. three months before the start of the semester.
