The course targets international students with a good knowledge of German who are studying German literature or are specifically interested in German literature.
The "Literature" project explores contemporary German literature within a European context. From historical and systematic perspectives, we examine literary texts as media objects, focusing on their aesthetic forms, poetic processes, and cultural contextual conditions. Further topics include the reflection of genre-specific questions and the interplay between literary and non-literary realms, such as discussions of literary texts within socio-historical, social, political, cultural, and intellectual-historical discourses. One focus of the project revolves around exploring the concept of belonging across various contexts in an increasingly interconnected yet fragmented world. Literature serves as an important repository for reflecting on questions of belonging in the age of globalisation, touching on themes such as transnational literary relations, world literature, and multilingualism. How can belonging be defined in terms of literary aesthetics? What different functions do imagination and fiction have in processes of globalisation and belonging? Which historical constellations become observable through the analysis of literary texts? To what extent does literature not only represent these processes, but also reflect upon, model, criticise, and influence them? Such questions will be reflected upon in the project.
Linguistically, the focus will be on communication and developing a confident command of the German language, customised for specific situations. Grammar and technical language aspects will be practised and refined at an advanced level.
The course consists of 25 lessons per week, consisting of 17 lessons in general language, which include two study groups and eight lessons in technical language.
