The summer university welcomes all students who are interested in studying German in an international atmosphere.
The language classes offered at the Summer University in Bayreuth combine both language acquisition and the development and training of intercultural competence since they are based on current topics in Germany. Additionally, grammar structures as well as speech and dialogue exercises are trained with material that reflects real-life situations.
Within each level, all courses deal with the following regional topics with varying degrees of difficulty:
- Germany through foreign eyes
- Everyday life in Germany
- Regional variety
- Cultural variety
At the Summer University Bayreuth, you have the chance to meet students from more than 40 countries. The culturally diverse backgrounds of the students turn discussions into a personal experience and a source of knowledge.
The language courses in the mornings (20 hours per week) are supplemented by compulsory special classes in the afternoons with eight hours per week (in total 28 hours per week). You can choose between the following compulsory subjects: Communication Course, European Studies, Film Culture, Journalism and Media, Music and Musical Life, Preparation for the TestDaF Exam, Training for Teachers of German as a Foreign Language, Introduction to German Law and German Legal Language, Technical German for Medicine or Business Communication. Our weekly programme will be rounded off by additional offers like seminars on German culture, an international choir, a theatre workshop, film nights, sports, and a literature café. These additional offers amount to at least 12 hours per week.
