Description/content

The Munich University Law School – one of the leading law schools in Germany – offers a unique summer programme for lawyers and law students from abroad: the Munich University Summer Training (MUST).
The MUST programme provides an in-depth introduction to German and European law. Special attention will be devoted to areas of interest to foreign business lawyers, i.e. corporate, securities and antitrust law, as well as business taxation. The challenging programme has been a great success throughout its first thirteen years.
The European Union is one of the two largest self-contained economic areas in the world. Within the Union, Germany is an important member, in terms of both population and economic output. Thus, there is an increasing demand for foreign lawyers with a basic understanding of European and German law. Lawyers with such a background will be able to collaborate with German lawyers in cross-border transactions or to practise law in Germany themselves. In addition, an understanding of another legal system enhances the intellectual capabilities necessary for excellence, both in legal practice and in academia.
Most classes in the MUST programme will be taught by law professors who are leading scholars in their respective fields and who have many years of teaching experience in law schools. Participants will be carefully selected in order to guarantee excellent study conditions. Classes and examinations will be held in English. Students will have the opportunity to take an examination at the end of the programme. This will be mandatory for students who are awarded a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service. With such an ambitious scope, we expect that students will be prepared to work hard, both in class and during periods of individual study.
