Instructors who teach German abroad and those who are studying to become German teachers
This language course is intended for both experienced and aspiring instructors of German. Besides the upper-level language training, our highly qualified, committed and experienced teachers will equip you with methodological and didactic tips and will introduce you to the latest teaching materials. The lessons follow the aims of communicative competence of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in an entertaining and inspiring way and will assist your independent learning process. The language course takes place from Monday to Friday in the mornings. There are four teaching units each morning (45 minutes each).
In the afternoon, you can choose from seminars on different current issues in the areas of cultural and social sciences, e.g. history, literature, film, environment, European policy and interculturality.
A graded certificate will be issued to all participants at the end of the course. It will include your individual language level according to the CEFR as well as your ECTS credits.
For this course DAAD university summer course scholarships (usually starting at language level B1) are available. If you wish to apply for this course, you can find all necessary information about the scholarship programme and its application requirements here. To submit your application, please note the reference number HSK-5974. This number can only be used for presence courses. Applying for attending online courses is not possible.
You must have successfully completed the German language level B2 in order to participate in this course.
Students reside in single rooms with shared kitchen and bathroom in mixed student residence halls in Freiburg for the duration of the course. The room fee is 470 EUR. The university is in the city centre and easy to reach by tram or bus.
The student dining hall ("Mensa") and the university cafeterias offer a wide range of dishes and snacks at reasonable prices, including vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Our diverse accompanying programme includes activities such as city tours, museum visits as well as hikes and trips in the region. At the weekend, we also offer exciting day trips to well-known sights, both near and distant. You can visit famous cities such as Heidelberg or Strasbourg and cultural regions such as the Black Forest and Alsace. Excursions are available at an extra charge.
