The Georg August University in Göttingen was founded in 1737 during the Enlightenment era and has since belonged to the best universities in Germany (Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2015: No. 2 in Germany).
The university library (SUB – Göttingen State and University Library) is well-stocked and ranks among the largest libraries in Germany. Of the 29,000 students, 4,500 students are international students.

University location

Göttingen is a lively university town. It is rich in tradition and has a friendly academic atmosphere with numerous parks and bikes. University students comprise 29,000 of the 134,000 inhabitants of this conveniently small, yet international town. Göttingen is perfect for learning the German language as standard German ("Hochdeutsch") is spoken here without a dialect. Thanks to its central location in Germany, it is easy to reach Berlin, Hamburg, or Frankfurt as well as beautiful nature parks.
