This summer academy is run by HM Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences, one of the most attractive universities and the second largest of its kind in Germany. The Munich Summer School of Applied Sciences "Engineering for Sustainability" programme embraces in-depth study in the fields of engineering and business administration. It is application-oriented, teaching state-of-the-art technology.

The programme structure and academic content is as follows:

The summer academy is scheduled for five weeks. Students will take part in an intensive German language and culture course during the first week, which will continue part-time throughout the study programme on two Fridays.

Students will select two credit courses in the field of engineering that are taught in English by multinational teams of two renowned lecturers and comprise aspects of sustainability and green technology issues.

The following courses are planned:

  • Smart Vehicles
  • Introduction to Embedded Computing
  • Sustainable Mobility
  • The Potential of Renewable Energies
  • Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems
  • Impact Entrepreneurship
  • SustAInability
  • Control Engineering for Sustainable Technical Processes

All courses will be assessed in order to best enable students to receive credits for the programme at their home university. For this reason, the academic programme has been developed in collaboration with California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences guarantees professional assistance for participants in the summer school. The programme coordinator, professors and student buddies will guide you through the programme.

Besides the course, we will offer an official cultural programme and field trips and will give you the opportunity to connect with international students.

Accommodation in a hostel in rooms with three to four beds in the vicinity of the university (not included in the price)

Meals

Breakfast is included in the hostel price.

During the first three weeks, students can have lunch in the campus cafeteria at a lower price.

A variety of restaurants and takeaway options are available near the university.

Description of social and leisure programme

The official cultural programme may include the following events:

  • Opening session with a campus tour
  • BMW guided factory tour
  • Day trip to a Bavarian lake or to the mountains
  • Deutsches Museum
  • Farewell dinner at a typical Bavarian "Biergarten"

In addition to the official cultural programme, students will receive a list of suggestions for trips and events in and around Munich.

Also, different field trips and course-related excursions will be organised.

Our student buddies will take you to summer events in Munich.
