Target group

ISU Kassel invites motivated and qualified students or graduates to join the programme. Students who would like to focus their studies on renewable energies and earthquake engineering, risk management, nanoscience, or German culture and language will most likely find the ISU programme particularly interesting.

Description/content

The University of Kassel plays a leading role in environmental studies and is one of Germany's outstanding universities in the field of environmental education and research. ISU offers specially designed seminars concentrating on the environmental and technological aspects of engineering, business, and politics. Examples of English-taught seminars include:

  • Adaptation Strategies to Climate Change
  • Environmental Engineering and Environmental Studies
  • Engineering Science of Wind Energy Systems
  • Earthquake Engineering
  • Project Management
  • Digital Factory Planning

Participants can take two seminars.

German Language Courses:
In addition to the academic seminars in the respective disciplines, all students attend intensive German language courses. These courses are offered at three different levels (from beginning to advanced). Participants will have plenty of opportunities to practise their language skills while staying with a host family.

Type of accommodation

Living with a German host family in Kassel, students will have a unique opportunity to experience German culture and everyday life first-hand. The homestay adds immeasurably to the study abroad experience and guarantees daily opportunities to improve both language and intercultural communication skills outside the classroom.

Meals

Accommodation with host families includes two meals per day. Breakfast and dinner will be provided by the host families, and an affordable lunch will be available at various campus cafeterias, where vegetarian meals are also served. At weekends, three meals a day will be provided by the host families.

Description of social and leisure programme

Students can enjoy an exciting cultural and leisure time programme. It includes the following: excursions to places like Fritzlar, Breitenau, and companies (depending on the seminars chosen); a guided tour of Kassel, which is known for the documenta exhibition and for the Grimm brothers' fairy tales; a hike to the Hercules monument and to the Habichtswald; a barbecue; a film night; opening and closing ceremonies; etc.
Students also have the chance to visit Germany's vibrant and exciting capital by partaking in an optional trip to Berlin.
