Expanded Realities at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences
Virtual Reality & Augmented Reality
Creative Technology & Design

The international Bachelor of Arts in Expanded Realities at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences teaches you all about technology and design for virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR). In the course of seven semesters, you will learn in practical projects and under the guidance of a scientific and artistic curriculum all the skills necessary to work as a developer or designer in the disrupting field of XR (extended realities) – whether your future is in games, industry or science. Our team of experienced professors and lecturers with industry background as well as our high-end facilities at the interdisciplinary Mediencampus Dieburg will give you an excellent set-up to boost your career as an XR professional. The programme offers an innovative, interdisciplinary and praxis-oriented curriculum that integrates relevant artistic, technological, cultural and methodological dimensions of immersive media productions.

Current information

The name of the study programme is planned to change to "Augmented and Virtual Reality Design" for the winter semester 2024/2025.

Course organisation

Essential technical, creative and scientific basics are taught in the first two semesters. From the third semester onwards, the practical workshops take up a central role. In these workshops, students work in teams on increasingly complex practical projects with high-tech equipment, as they will be doing later in their professional lives. In the fourth semester, students spend the practical phase in a company, media agency or research institute. Furthermore, Expanded Realities workshops are followed by a research project and the Bachelor's thesis in the seventh semester.
