Description/content

The degree programme prepares students for a business and economics-related career in an international environment and teaches the professional and interdisciplinary skills and methods that are necessary for this. To this end, students are familiarised with basic knowledge of scientific and practical methods of business administration as well as the associated teaching areas (including quantitative methods such as mathematics and statistics). In addition, key qualifications such as scientific work, the ability to work in a team, presentation techniques and soft skills are taught. In addition to subject-specific skills, foreign language competence is of central importance. All modules of this degree programme are taught in English. During the year abroad at one of our partner universities, the acquired knowledge is applied and intensified. In the course of the year abroad, there is the possibility to specialise in the subject and/or in another chosen foreign language.

On the one hand, students achieve a first professional qualification within the framework of higher education, which enables access to the private sector, freelance professions or the higher civil service at home and abroad. On the other hand, the theoretical scientific contents of the degree programme provide the necessary entry qualification for a subsequent Master's degree programme at a domestic or foreign university.

Course organisation

The degree programme is designed as a seven-semester full-time degree programme and has a modular structure. The first four semesters consist of compulsory modules, which include basic and important subject areas such as management, economics, accounting & taxation, marketing, corporate finance and intercultural management, but also coordinated quantitative modules (e.g., applied mathematics and applied statistics), which prepare the students for scientific work and are ultimately applied in a seminar.

The internationality of the degree programme is ensured by the continuous teaching of business administration in English as well as by the internationally oriented content of the courses.

In addition to the usual foundation subjects, the degree programme offers the possibility of taking voluntary electives in which knowledge of another foreign language (Spanish, Chinese, French as well as German as a foreign language for incoming students) can be learned or improved. This should enable students to take courses in a foreign language other than English during the year abroad.

In the course of the compulsory year abroad in the fifth and sixth semesters, students can choose corresponding English-language courses at one of around 60 partner universities of the department. In addition, they can acquire a subject-related as well as a linguistic focus in another chosen foreign language. Foreign students with good German language skills have the option of spending their last two semesters at Trier University of Applied Sciences.

The final seventh semester can be completed in Germany or abroad in the form of a practical study phase (internship with international relevance), followed by the Bachelor's thesis. Both do not necessarily require a return to Trier.

Trier University of Applied Sciences, centrally located in the heart of Europe, is an excellent place for practical learning, pioneering research and internationality in the truest sense of the word. We teach and research with joy and enthusiasm – for and with our students. There are around 7,200 students on our three campuses, all studying in a vivid, interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange. This makes Trier University of Applied Sciences one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Above the roofs of Trier, only a few minutes away from the city centre, sits the largest campus of Trier University of Applied Sciences: the main campus at Schneidershof. These buildings, some of which are protected historical buildings, house the university’s administration and the most important service facilities. The Business School, which was founded in 1975, is located on the main campus.

Trier University of Applied Sciences is preparing for the future and is in perpetual motion – not only on account of around 5,000 students on the main campus. The university has made great investments in modernising the teaching buildings, lecture halls and the outdoor facilities in order to ensure the best conditions for studying and researching. Studying at Trier University of Applied Sciences is much more than just seminars, lectures and exams. There are numerous locations that invite you to stay awhile and be part of campus life: a sports field, hang-out spaces and barbecue area, as well as the cafeteria.

University location

A student city in the heart of Europe, Trier is not only the oldest city in Germany, but also a real student city with around 20,000 students and a good 100,000 inhabitants. You can therefore expect a great range of leisure and cultural activities with numerous bars, cafés, clubs and theatres - and all this in a picturesque old town with no less than eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Furthermore, the various green spaces in the city centre and along the Moselle River invite you to spend time with fellow students in the summer.

Moreover, Trier's location in the heart of Europe offers numerous opportunities for excursions to the scenic Moselle region and the neighbouring countries of Belgium, France and Luxembourg.

Take the opportunity to get to know a new city and study where others go on holiday.
