Our courses in Leipzig combine face-to-face learning with modern digital methods. In addition to varied on-site activities, we supplement the lessons with an intuitive learning platform that serves as a central location for materials and exchange.

If necessary, learning can take place entirely online: You can take part in live video conferences and deepen your knowledge during independent learning phases.

Our learning service is there to support you throughout the course.

Target group

The DaF in Theory and Practice summer academy is aimed at international students and young teachers who

  • are studying German as a foreign language or German studies and would like to teach German later or are already teaching German,
  • want to make good use of their semester or summer vacation to further their professional and linguistic training,
  • are looking for an exchange with other students and teachers from all over the world (in German and on equal footing), and
  • want to experience Germany up close and engage in conversations with local people.
Description/content

German teachers from all over the world can expand their language and teaching skills and exchange ideas with colleagues and fellow students. At the same time, participants will discover Leipzig from a completely new perspective and experience contemporary Germany up close.

Our programme:

Specialist focus:

  • Practical seminars and conversation sessions with up-to-date learning materials and modern media, supplemented by additional digital offerings on our learning platform
  • Phonetics training in small groups
  • Seminars, lectures and workshops on current topics from methodology, linguistics, culture, and history
  • Regional studies to participate in: research in small teams, discussions with experts, and events that bring Germany to life
  • Lesson observations with subsequent evaluations

Experience Germany:

  • Day trip, for example to Weimar
  • Discovery tours through Leipzig and the surrounding area
  • Cultural highlights (such as a summer concert)

Language requirements

This course is designed for German studies students and (future) teachers of German. Therefore, a very good knowledge of German (at least level B2) is required.

Technical equipment and programmes

You will be working on the learning platform throughout the course. You will need a notebook or tablet to participate successfully. In addition to the on-site lessons, you can work independently or together with others on the online platform so you can take an active, modern approach to your learning.

Meals

Our course participants can eat at the student cafeteria "Mensa am Park", which is part of the campus of Leipzig University in the city centre.

Close to our institute as well as in the nearby city centre, you will also find a wide variety of cafés, restaurants, and pubs.

Moreover, there are small kitchens in the accommodation, where you can prepare meals on your own.

Description of social and leisure programme

Offers that are included in the course price:

  • full-day excursions, for example to Erfurt or Berlin 
  • shared opening lunch and a closing party
  • selected cultural highlights, such as concerts or a boat trip
  • visits to museums and sights, for example a guided tour of the Forum of Contemporary History

We also offer other excursions, such as an excursion to Dresden, for an additional charge. Of course, you will also receive personal tips from us for your own discovery tours. You will have the opportunity to experience culture and history up close – in a way that’s varied, exciting, and tailored to your interests!
