Bonn, 13/11/2015. Education is central to successful integration. More than half of the refugees currently arriving in Germany are under the age of 25, i.e. an age at which education is needed. In order to facilitate access to higher education for those wishing to study and possessing adequate qualifications, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) will support universities with targeted measures in the next years and help to promote the integration of refugees in this way. Approximately €100 million are available for this purpose in the coming years, with €27 million earmarked for projects in 2016.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) intensifies its cooperation with India. DAAD and University Grants Commission (UGC) to launch “Indo-German Partnership in Higher Education Programme (IGP)” on 6th October 2015.
Bonn. 25.08.2015. Core themes of the 15th annual GAIN conference include the prospects of the German academic and research landscape as well as individual career paths and professional opportunities. This unique meeting offers young German academics and researchers in North America the opportunity to interact and establish contact with high-level representatives from academe, politics, and the private sector. More than 300 scientists and researchers are expected to attend this year’s meeting, which takes place August 28-30 in San Francisco. It is the largest event of its kind outside of Europe.
Bonn, 27 October 2014. Funded by the Federal Foreign Office, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has set up a scholarships programme for refugees from Syria. The call for applications begins on 31 October. In total, one hundred gifted Syrian students are to be given the opportunity of studying in Germany in the coming year. The Federal Foreign Office is to provide €7.8m in funding.
Bonn, 27 June 2014. The Leibniz Association and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offer a joint funding programme for outstanding international junior researchers. The ''Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowship Programme'' is targeted at qualified postdocs from around the world who have earned their doctorate within the past two years. The scholarship enables them to conduct research at one of 89 institutes of the Leibniz Association for one year. The experience they gain can open the door to an international career.
