“My film talks about the invisible boundaries of the city”


Dr. Paola Piscitelli, a lecturer in earth system science at the University of Hamburg, wanted to take a closer look at the situation of marginalised young people in Naples and Johannesburg. The result of her work is a film, produced in collaboration with young people in Naples. Her project was supported by the DAAD funding programme, Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience (PRIME). DAAD News talked to the scientist about her documentary.


Centres of Excellence for Africa’s future

On the occasion of the ten-year anniversary of the Centres of African Excellence initiative by the Federal Foreign Office and the DAAD, a large network meeting was held in Berlin. The South African Minister of Higher Education Naledi Pandor spoke of the ten Centres of Excellence with different orientations as a “foundation of enormous benefit”. The centres make it possible to train the future leaders of society, academia and business.


“Going Global” in Cape Town: Forum of the Academic World

The name says it all: the Going Global Conference staged by the British Council brought together international experts for three days of debates on global strategies in higher education. The DAAD was involved in many of these and also created a stir with a new study on PhD training in Africa.
