Target group

The course targets all students who wish to develop their German language skills. It offers ideal conditions for learning more about the university town of Bielefeld and Germany in general. This course is especially interesting for students who intend to take part in the Erasmus programme or plan to study in Germany.

Description/content

The German language course at level A2 focuses mainly on improving communicative competence based on topics relevant to university life as well as everyday life in Germany. In addition, grammar will be introduced and expanded at this level. The participants learn the most important structures of the German language. A special feature is the project work, which improves local knowledge and language skills with a focus on current topics.

The language course will be supplemented by an extensive and varied activity programme, consisting of working groups on regional and cultural studies meeting in the afternoons, alongside activities taking place in the evenings and on the weekends. Furthermore, there are two day trips to museums in well-known towns included in the course price – for example, a visit to the "House of History of the Federal Republic of Germany" in Bonn and to the "LWL-Museum for Art and Culture" in Münster.

If you wish to apply for this course, you can find all necessary information about the scholarship programme and its application requirements here. To submit your application, please note the reference number HSK-5676. This number can only be used for presence courses. Applying for attending online courses is not possible.

The rent for a room in a dormitory is 270 EUR to 370 EUR. The rent for a room with a host family is 300 EUR, plus a deposit of 50 EUR.

Description of social and leisure programme

We offer our participants a varied leisure programme. For example, they can discover Bielefeld and the surrounding area, cook meals together, learn more about the German football culture (including a visit to the stadium of Arminia Bielefeld), watch current German films, or make use of the university's sports programme. The German course includes two excursions, e.g. to Bonn and Münster.
